What is a good sleep score? How ours is calculated
A sleep score is a single number that summarises a night, but every app calculates it differently, so scores from different apps can't be compared. Snorezy's is built only from your sleep: how long, how unbroken, how efficient, how regular, and how rested you felt. Here is exactly how.
The five parts
Each part is scored from 0 to 100 and weighted:
- Duration (35): time asleep from Apple Health. 100 for 7.5 to 9 hours, falling to 0 at 5 hours (or at 12).
- Continuity (25): how unbroken the night was, from Apple Health. 100 with 5 minutes or less awake and no awakenings; lower with more time awake and each awakening.
- Efficiency (20): time asleep as a share of time in bed, from Apple Health. 100 at 95% or more, 0 at 75%.
- Regularity (10): how close you fell asleep to your usual time, once there are three earlier nights to compare. 100 within 10 minutes, 0 at 75 minutes off.
- How you felt (10): your own morning rating, from Exhausted to Very rested.
If a part is missing, it's left out and the others are re-weighted. It's never scored as zero.
What isn't in it
Sounds are never part of the score. Snoring and breathing sounds are shown beside it, not hidden inside it as penalties, and nothing in it estimates the likelihood of sleep apnea.
No Apple Health sleep, no score. A recording alone can't tell sleep from wake, so a score without Apple Health sleep data would be invented. A score also needs at least 3 hours asleep and at least 2 hours recorded.
What's a good score?
Higher is better, but the most useful comparison is with your own nights, not with other people or other apps. Tap "Why this score" in the report to see which part pulled a night down.
Sleep efficiency and awakenings
Sleep efficiency is time asleep divided by time in bed. Awakenings between cycles are normal [1], which is why continuity is one part of five, not the whole score.
